As voting is once again in process it might help decision-making to bring to mind how Aberdeen has grown in the acceptance of differences in recent years in the area of diversity. We have a number of people who are of different ethnic back grounds, different religions, different sexual orientation and different colors of skin.
Diversity comes in many forms. One difference is even between neighbors in the way each approaches solving problems such as care of one’s yard, or the diversity of people with special needs who might need adaptive technology. These are all issues of diversity.
Each of us is a person with gifts to share and enhance our life here in Aberdeen. As we go to the polls and vote, let us reflect on how all of us can use these gifts to enrich our city.
When choosing our civic leaders, mayor and council members, we want those who can most draw these gifts out to enhance each of us in community and see the beauty of various areas of diversity.
